my homework says:
Pick out a famous religious leader during this period of American history(American prior to Columbus – Lexigton & Concord) and design a newspaper headline with an accompanying article on ” current news” surround him/her. The article needs to include information about the persons’s life and activities.

I don’t understand really good, I’ve got my sources but i don’t know how to put my research into a newspaper headline.
I really need your help guys, this project is for tomorrow and is worth 100 points, i also have to do an interview but i can do that by my own. I just need this little help from you all.

I appreciate it so much.

Here my research:

Winthrop, John – 1588–1649, governor of the Massachusetts Bay colony, b. Edwardstone, near Groton, Suffolk, England. Of a landowning family, he studied at Trinity College, Cambridge, came into a family fortune, and became a government administrator with strong Puritan leanings. A member of the Massachusetts Bay Company, he led the group that arranged for the removal of the company’s government to New England and was chosen (1629) governor of the proposed colony. He arrived (1630) in the ship Arbella at Salem and shortly founded on Shawmut peninsula the settlement that became Boston. He was—with the possible exception of John Cotton—the most distinguished citizen of Massachusetts Bay colony, serving as governor some 12 times. He helped to shape the theocratic policy of the colony and opposed broad democracy. It was while he was deputy governor and Sir Henry Vane (1613–62) was governor that Winthrop bitterly and successfully opposed the antinomian beliefs of Anne Hutchinson and her followers, who were supported by Vane. The force of his influence on the history of Massachusetts was enormous. Winthrop’s journal, which was edited by J. K. Hosmer and published in 1908 as The History of New England from 1630 to 1649 is one of the most valuable of American historical sources.

http://www.questia.com/library/john-winthrop.jsp

Winthrop, John (1588–1649), leader of the Puritan settlement in New England and first governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.Between 1602 and 1620, John Winthrop attended Trinity College, Cambridge; studied law; was married three times and widowed twice; took over his father’s estate at Groton Manor; served as justice of the peace; and became an acknowledged Puritan. Throughout the 1620s, economic pressures, political crises, and his intensifying engagement with Puritanism led Winthrop to despair of England’s future and to join other Puritans planning an escape to America. As governor of the newly formed Massachusetts Bay Company, his sermon in 1630 on board the Arbella —“A Modell of Christian Charity”—defined the Puritans’ mission to create a biblical commonwealth in covenant with God that would “be as a Citty upon a hill.”

Winthrop’s Journal documents his skillful guidance and leadership during the first two decades of settlement. A generally moderate man, he tried to balance the authority of the governors with the liberties and interests of the governed, seeking harmony in the face of conflicts and emphasizing communal over private interests. Deeply religious, he endeavored also to balance his lifelong quest for assurance of grace with an appreciation of life’s pleasures, opposing Anne Hutchinson’s claims to absolute spiritual assurance and Roger Williams’s perfectionism. His wisdom, intelligence, and political acumen helped insure the survival and success of the Puritan experiment in America.

Best answer:

Answer by patrick508
Have the news article talk about a speech he gave denouncing Anne Hutchinson: “Governor denounces heretics” You could have a mock interview with the governor on why he thinks she and her followers are wrong and what his ideas are for an ideal Commonwealth.

Question by Anon: Why Is This Message Censored By Yahoo?
Can someone point out a TOS violation in the following:

With Democrats proposing to set the top two income tax rates at 36% and 39.6% respectively, Republican leaders waged a ferocious battle on behalf of the wealthiest American taxpayers. Former House Majority Leader and current Tea Party moneyman Dick Armey warned, “This program will not give you deficit reduction.” Ohio’s John Kasich cautioned, “It’s our bet that this is a job killer.” And for his part, 2012 White House hopeful Newt Gingrich promised, “This is the Democrat machine’s recession, and each one of them will be held personally accountable.”

As it turns out, the year was 1993, not 2010. At issue was President Bill Clinton’s $ 496 billion program of stimulus and upper income tax increases. And what Republicans then decried as disaster ushered in the longest economic expansion in modern American history, a period which produced 23 million new jobs and a balanced budget.

But that hasn’t stopped the GOP brain trust from resurrecting their 1993 predictions of gloom and doom, forecasts which were spectacularly wrong.

Launching his campaign for House Speaker, Minority Leader John Boehner on Tuesday decried President Obama’s “job-killing tax hikes” and called the expiration of the Bush tax cuts for the rich “a recipe for disaster – both for our economy and for the deficit.” His Senate counterpart Mitch McConnell told Fox News, “It would be a disaster.” On Meet the Press last week, Dick Armey rejected the notion of returning the tax rates for the top 2% of earners back to their Clinton-era levels, mocking Obama’s “new cockamamy ideas” and insisting the President “not raise taxes and take away the return on an investment” And as Newt Gingrich predicted in July:

“This economy will sink deeper into recession. There will be higher unemployment. The recovery will be longer.”

If this all sounds familiar, it should. After all, as ThinkProgress, Congress Matters and Andrew Tobias all documented, pretty much the same people said pretty much the same thing back in 1993.

If Barack Obama’s experience with Republican obstructionism has been painful, Bill Clinton’s was unprecedented. When Clinton’s 1993 economic program scraped by without capturing the support of even one GOP lawmaker, the New York Times remarked:

Historians believe that no other important legislation, at least since World War II, has been enacted without at least one vote in either house from each major party.

Inheriting massive budget deficits and unemployment topping 7% from Bush the Elder, Clinton’s $ 496 billion program was nonetheless opposed by every single member of the GOP, as well as defectors from his own party. As the Times recounted, it took a tie-breaking vote from Vice President Al Gore to earn victory:

An identical version of the $ 496 billion deficit-cutting measure was approved Thursday night by the House, 218 to 216. The Senate was divided 50 to 50 before Mr. Gore voted. Since tie votes in the House mean defeat, the bill would have failed if even one representative or one senator who voted with the President had switched sides.

(It’s worth noting that while Bill Clinton met with total opposition from Republicans over his economic program, neither Ronald Reagan before him nor George W. Bush after was similarly subjected to scorched-earth politics from Democrats.)
This was censored on Yahoo Message Boards so can the unhelpful sarcasm
I asked a question, it preceded the question mark in the header. I asked two questions

Why was this message censored by Yahoo?

Where is the TOS violation?

I don’t know how to make it any more clearer than that and it would be really stupid to ask those questions with the relevant message text
That should be WITHOUT the relevant text
Well no one answered this correctly and I figured it out myself. On the Yahoo Message Boards I can’t use the name Dick Armey, it has to be Richard Armey or D**k Armey (No I’m not kidding)

I guess I shouldn’t be the least bit surpirsed that people over here are as clueless as the Censors on the Yahoo Message Boards.

I’d thank you for the help but I didn’t get even the slightest bit what so ever here

Question by GREAT_AMERICAN: Liberal media cant stand the fact that Bush is responsible for a strong economy?
It’s time now, folks, for another installment in the monthly “Better Than Expected” series from the Drive-By Media. This time, it’s job growth. Headline from Jeannine Aversa, AP economics writer: “Job Growth Is Better-Than-Expected.” What is this, the sixth or seventh straight month where all the experts have been stunned by economic news? “Employers boosted payrolls by a better than expected 132,000 jobs in June, enough to keep the unemployment rate at a relatively low…” Relatively low! It’s record low! (You just have to love these people. Everybody’s being exposed to the way they do things and they don’t get it! They continue. They refuse to adapt. “…better than expected 132,000 jobs…relatively low unemployment rate at 4.5%. It was another sign that the economy is snapping out of a nearly year-long sluggish spell.” A nearly year-long sluggish spell? I love this part of the article, too. It says, “Despite the healthy jobs market and the budding rebound the public is giving President Bush low marks for his economic stewardship.” Oh! Well, I’m so surprised. The media spend 30 days a month reporting how bad everything is going, then on the 31st day of the month they write the CYA, the “economy’s getting better than expected” story, and it’s on to the next four straight weeks of hand-wringing. It’s all about creating a perception of disaster, imminent doom, and crisis.

They follow up that with copious polling to see how well they’re doing at creating that perception. You know, polls are the quality control tests that the Drive-Bys use to gauge how well they’re “managing the news,” and “managing the news” is exactly what they do. That phrase comes from this guy in the Buffalo News. He had a newspaper column the other day that we read to you about the immigration bill and how the old media got trampled here, and the new media ran away with it, and they gotta figure out now — the old Drive-Bys have to figure out — how they’re going to “manage the news of the presidential race.” Whether it was unwittingly done or not, that’s one of the best eye-openers as to how people in the Drive-By Media view their jobs that I’ve ever seen: “manage the news.” So all polls are, for the most part, are the quality control tests that the Drive-Bys use to gauge how well they’re managing the news. “Let’s say they spend 30 days just beating the garbage out of the economy, just ripping it to shreds. Then they go out and do a poll: ‘How’s Bush doing on the economy?’” and the poll says, “Bush sucks on the economy,” and the Drive-Bys say, “See? We’ve been managing the news well. We’re doing a damn good job of creating a negative perception where none exists.” That’s exactly how it works.

Question by P’Lod: Anyone else as sick of Yahoo’s “news” choices as I am?
I know Yahoo news isnt the best source to find out what’s going on in the world, but today’s headlines went too far even by their standards. It’s not only inapproriate, but sickening and and offensive to see features about rock stars’ spending habits and a billionaire heiress right next to articles about bailouts, homeless and food shelters being strained, and 30,000 more people losing their jobs.

There are a lot of unemployed people out there barely making ends meet and struggling to support their families, and celebrity spending habits would probably the last thing they want to see when they go online. You would think the people in charge of organizing the front page of Yahoo might be more cautious about things like this, especially considering the economic crisis.

And it’s just as inappropriate for an article featuring comments by DMX on the color of prison jumpsuits to be in the same list of headlines as news on the Isreali/Gaza conflict and the plane crash.

The main news is a place to find out what’s going on in the world, not what your favorite rock star or heiress is up to. If anyone wants to read these articles, there are more appropriate celebrity categories for it. For now, I’m chaging my homepage.
Apperantly some people are still either young or lucky enough not to be affected by what’s going on in the world.

Best answer:

Answer by Wounded Duck
Good for you, change it. Why you feel the need to convince others that you are a good role model is beyond me. Why should your opinion be of any interest to anyone? Ego a little too large?
